This Western Approach starts at a higher altitude and is a longer route providing a more gradual ascent with more time to acclimatize. This is the least travelled route, allowing a more peaceful and enjoyable trek without the usual crowds found on other more high traffic camps. The Lemosho Route is a camping trip for an average group size of 4 using top quality mountain tents, comfortable mattresses, and qualified guides, porters who carry the bags and equipment, and cooks who provide fresh, tasty food every day. The ratio of guide: climber is 1:2. Our local guides have been with us for many years and are all trained, qualified, experienced and great fun. We provide an experienced personal service throughout, and you can chat with us in the office about the climb. Gavin has been guiding the mountain since 1994 and makes several ascents a year, and we have been using the same team of guides and cooks since 2001.

Tour Highlights

  • The Lemosho route is an unspoilt, remote, little used and beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau.
  • The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife.
  • The minimum duration for the Lemosho route is 6 days, however since the biggest cause of altitude sickness is going too high too fast and it affects every person differently irrespective of their age, fitness levels etc, do we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 or even 8 days.
