Tanzania Weather

While day-to-day weather anywhere is unpredictable, Tanzania’s seasons are well documented. Tourism has typically followed the dry seasons, making high season during the warm and dry spells and low season during the heavy rains. January and February tend to be dry and very warm, with rains beginning around early April and continuing through June. July is often considered ‘winter’ as it is subjectively cold. September through November presents warmer, dry weather and there is often a short rainy season during December, with a mix of rain and sun. No matter the time of year you visit it is advisable to come prepared with several layers: a light jacket and sweater, as well as sturdy walking sandals and closed shoes with a few pairs of socks. Several areas of Northern Tanzania, including Ngorongoro Highlands, are at higher elevations and mean cooler nights and chilly early mornings.
